Brunei Tourism: 7 Untouched Wonders

  • 3 min read

Brunei isn’t a particularly ‘exciting’ holiday destination especially with bustling cities in the region like Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong. But that’s a good thing. It’s a breath of fresh air in contrast to the hectic, and often over-commercialised metropolises of Asia.

In this digital activation campaign, we contrast the commercialised aspects of typical city destinations with their uncommercialised counterparts in Brunei. Through simple yet engaging content and contest giveaways, we introduce the charm of Brunei, from its untouched ‘fast-food’ to its untouched ‘theme park’.

The Untouched Theme Park: Find the Golden Ticket

Eschew the man-made rides in theme parks and get on an actual river safari ride in Brunei. In this simple activation on social media, we get people to find the Golden Ticket hidden within our Brunei River Ride map (peppered with other exciting wildlife you can find there, such as Proboscis monkeys and crocodiles).

Can you find the Golden Ticket?

The Untouched Views: Swap Your Window View

Kampung Ayer in Brunei is the world’s largest water village. It offers an unmatched sightseeing opportunity where one can also experience the tranquility of living by the waters. We invited people to trade their current window-view for that in Kampung Ayer and stand a chance to get whisked away to Brunei for free.

The Untouched Music Hits: Sounds of Brunei

Once in awhile it’s great turn off the radio and unwind to the sounds of nature instead. With the increasing trend for Lo-Fi and ambient tracks, we introduced Brunei’s nature spots with an album on Spotify that included relaxing nature tracks recorded in the country’s Ulu Temburong Nature Reserve.

The Untouched Icon: The 36 Views of Sultan Omar Mosque

Despite continuous developments in the city, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque remains the tallest building in central Bandar Seri Begawan. The structure can be seen from almost every corner of the city, and has stood untouched for decades. Inspired by Hokusai’s famous work (the 36 views of Mt Fuji), we get Instagram content creators to capture their versions of this iconic mosque – from 36 different spots in the city.

And more.

Other activation content include getting fans to count the number of fishes in our underwater photo to introduce Brunei as one of the best off-the-radar diving locations and also commenting ‘knock knock’ on our post on Nasi Katok (a quintessential Bruneian fast food, which literally translate to knock knock rice).
