LASALLE is the leading contemporary arts institution in Singapore. From design to site architecture, we overhauled the site from ground up with the aim of making it visually provocative while effectively serving its multi-varied functions from student recruitment, providing news updates to being a repository for research publications.
Design Concept
The design of the site revolves around the theme of glass shards. The irregular shards are reminiscent of the school campus’ unique architecture and logo, while conveying the notion of art being both a shattering of norms as well as a reflection of the inner artist.
Site Architecture / UX & UI Considerations
When considering site architecture, we needed to ensure both that end-users can find their information intuitively, and that the different school departments can update content easily. One challenge was that the site served a variety of audiences – from prospective students to existing students, researchers and the general public etc – whose user journeys may differ in some ways but overlap in others, making streamlining navigation and content structure tricky yet essential.
To ensure that the site is intuitive, especially given the wealth of different content and new navigation patterns that we have introduced, we created interactive prototypes for test users to observe their browsing behaviour.
Style Guide & Pattern Library
For ensuring consistency especially when there are multiple teams working on the website, we created a style guide and pattern library includes the site’s grid system, colour palettes, typography scales, icons, component blocks (form elements, buttons, etc) as well as sections and templates.
